The ASTRO Foundation has exciting news for animal lovers in Oakdale and the surrounding communities. In December 2025, our adoption center moved to a larger facility, marking a significant milestone in our mission to rescue and rehome animals in need. This new space not only allows us to care for more cats but also officially welcomes dogs into our adoption program for the first time. We're thrilled to share what this means for the ASTRO Foundation, the animals we serve, and the community that supports us.
A New Chapter for the ASTRO Foundation in Oakdale
Since our founding, the ASTRO Foundation has focused on rescuing cats and finding them loving homes. Our original location served us well, but as the number of animals needing help grew, it became clear that we needed more space. The new facility is located at 20 S. Stearns Road in Oakdale. (Long time residents and community members will know this as the former location of the OVG Hospital who have since moved to to their own amazing facility on Maag) offers us the room to expand our services and improve the care we provide.
This move is more than just a change of address. It represents our commitment to the Oakdale community and our dedication to animal rescue. With the larger space, we can now triple the capacity of cats we can care for comfortably, giving each one more room to play, rest, and socialize. And of course, we can now care for many dogs at a time, a long-awaited addition that many supporters have asked for.
What the Expanded Capacity Means for Cats and Dogs
The new facility is designed with the animals’ well-being as the top priority. Here are some of the key features that make this possible:
A larger Community Room where many friendly and healthy cats who can't wait to meet you.
Many separate living areas for animals of varying levels of recovery to ensure safety and reduce stress.
Indoor and outdoor play spaces that encourage exercise and natural behavior.
A Zen Room where potential adopters and caregivers can have a quiet moment with a timid animal
Improved sterile storage for kennel and medical equipment, as well as better cleaning stations to provide on-site care and keep animals healthy.
By increasing our capacity, ASTRO Foundation can rescue more animals from overcrowded shelters and neglectful situations. For example, in the past year alone, we helped over 1,100 animals find new homes. With the ability to house dogs, we expect to double the number of animals we assist annually.
